The Hybrid image

Description

The Hybrid, created by John Bartlett, is a unique fly pattern designed to target wary carp. As the name suggests, the Hybrid is a cross between a worm and a soft hackled wet fly, combining the best traits of both to create an effective and lifelike presentation. The worm-like body offers a tempting, low-profile presentation, while the soft hackle provides subtle movement that mimics the action of natural prey. The Hybrid is especially effective in murky water or when targeting carp in shallow flats, where its soft, subtle movements can trigger a feeding response. Its simplicity and natural appearance make it an excellent choice for cautious carp that may shy away from more aggressive patterns.

Pro Tip

Cast, drag, and drop - Let fly settle and do not move it. Let the carp come to it!

Recipe

Hook: Size 6-8, medium-strength carp hook – A solid hook that holds up to the fight of large carp and provides a good hook gap for secure hook-ups. Thread: Tan or olive UTC 70 – A fine thread that binds materials tightly while blending well with the natural colors of the fly. Body: Fine dubbing in earth tones (brown, olive, or tan) – The body is slender and worm-like, giving the fly its subtle profile. The dubbing also provides a natural texture that enhances its realism. Hackle: Soft hackle, grizzly or partridge – A soft, webby hackle wrapped around the body to create the characteristic movement of a soft hackled wet fly. This gives the fly an enticing, lifelike action in the water. Collar: A small, wispy collar of natural-colored hackle or dubbing to add a touch of bulk at the head of the fly, helping it sink into the carp’s feeding zone.
