The DJL Green Drake was conceived by Umpqua Signature tyer Danny Lane, who crafted this pattern to imitate the large, vibrant Green Drake. Lane’s goal was to design a fly with a perfect combination of realism and buoyancy, allowing it to ride naturally on the water's surface even in turbulent currents. This fly features a distinct segmented body and broad, sweeping wings, mimicking the mayfly’s unique silhouette during its emergence. It has become a trusted choice for anglers targeting trout during the Green Drake hatch, particularly in Western and Rocky Mountain streams, where this large mayfly draws explosive surface strikes.

Dead Drift Micro-Pause: While dead drifting, incorporate subtle micro-pauses in the drift. Let the fly hesitate for a split second on slack water edges or seams; this mimics the natural hesitation of the Green Drake on the surface, triggering strikes from cautious trout.
