Description

The Black Beauty is a legendary midge pattern developed by Pat Dorsey of Colorado for the tailwaters of the South Platte River—especially the Cheesman Canyon and Deckers stretches. Designed in the 1990s to imitate tiny midges that dominate the winter and early spring food supply, the pattern was built for difficult, low-water conditions where trout feed on small bugs with surgical precision. With its slender body, subtle segmentation, and minimalist design, the Black Beauty has earned a permanent place in technical fly boxes and remains one of the most reliable small patterns for pressured trout.

Pro Tip

It's a great fly for the Trico Mayfly as well
