The Sunny Side Up Egg, designed by Umpqua Signature tyer Hans Mylant, is a versatile and effective fly pattern primarily developed for use as an anchor fly on a Euro rig. However, it performs equally well as a lead fly on a traditional indicator rig, eliminating the need for split shot. The fly's innovative design features a technique Mylant calls "posting the bead," which secures a jig-style bead to the top of the hook shank, mimicking a parachute post. This ensures the fly rides hook point up without restricting the hook gap, allowing it to sink efficiently while maintaining a natural presentation. Available in three sizes, the Sunny Side Up offers varying sink rates, making it ideal for fishing in a wide range of water conditions, from small streams to large rivers and stillwater.
