The Steel Plow, created by RIO, is an exceptional steelhead skater designed to deliver one of the most rewarding experiences in fly fishing—hooking a steelhead on a skated fly. Inspired by John Deere's original walking steel plow, the Steel Plow was developed to maximize both durability and action on the surface. Featuring a #4 short-shanked hook that acts as a rudder, the fly remains stable and responsive in the water, even during violent grabs. The unique plow handles serve as outriggers, providing balance and simulating the appearance of wings, enhancing the fly's movement. Flash and hackles on the fly catch both water and light, giving it the realistic indication of movement and life that steelhead can’t resist. The fly also includes an orange sighter, which helps anglers track the fly across the slicks of early morning waters, ensuring precise casts and strikes.
