Description
The Sofa Pillow – Created by Pat Barnes. It was named spontaneously. Considered a classic of Western fly fishing, once in the 1940s, Pat hosted a group of Texans who couldn't hook trout on small flies. To solve their problem, Pat tied a large dry stonefly pattern. When one Texan drawled "It's as big as a sofa pillow!" Pat responded, "You named it!" A classic Stonefly pattern, it closely represents is the Giant Salmonfly, which inhabits many Western Rivers. It also was likely the inspiration for the Stimulator.
Pro Tip
Known for its bushy body and high visibility, it floats well in fast water and works great as an indicator fly with a nymph dropper underneath.
