Description

The King Lepus, developed by Tom Herrington of the Historic Ocean Springs Saltwater Fly Fishing Club, is a versatile attractor pattern originally designed for pelagic species like king mackerel, wahoo, sailfish, and bull dolphin. It draws on the success of the Sunrise Double Lepus, which was initially created for cobia and tarpon. The King Lepus is known for its oversized eyes, which make it highly visible in the water and add to its fish-attracting appeal. Its long, eel-like body makes it an ideal pattern for striped bass, as it mimics the movement of elongated prey such as eels and small fish. When paired with larger barbell eyes, the King Lepus becomes an effective dredging pattern for deeper bass, making it an all-around baitfish imitation for a wide range of species. Pro Tip

Fish with Dredging Techniques for Deep Bass: The King Lepus, when paired with large barbell eyes, makes an excellent dredging pattern for striped bass. Cast the fly into deeper water and use a slow, deliberate retrieve, allowing the fly to sink quickly and maintain a natural, fish-like movement at the bottom of the water column.
