Guido Shrimp image

Description

The Guido Shrimp, created by renowned fly designer Guido Rahr in the late 1990s, is a gurgler-style topwater pattern designed to mimic the movement of a shrimp struggling on the surface. The fly is famous for its ability to trigger explosive strikes from a wide variety of backcountry flats species, including tarpon, snook, redfish, seatrout, and jacks. Its foam body creates a distinctive gurgling sound when retrieved, simulating the noise of shrimp or small prey that predators are actively targeting.

Pro Tip

When fishing the Guido Shrimp, cast it towards likely feeding areas like shallow flats or near structure such as mangroves or reefs. Use a quick, steady retrieve to generate the signature gurgling sound and create a commotion on the surface. If fish are showing interest but not committing, vary the retrieve by incorporating occasional pauses to give the shrimp a "rest" in the water, mimicking a shrimp in distress
