Foxee Dog image

Description

The Foxee Dog, designed by Charles St. Pierre of Northwest Speycasting, is a steelhead and salmon fly that blends traditional proportions with modern materials and tying techniques. Inspired by the Nordic Atlantic Salmon Temple Dog series, this pattern is tied on Waddington shanks, positioning the hook further back to accommodate the tendency of Pacific Coast fish to strike from the rear. The fly features a combination of Arctic fox and Angel Hair in the wing, creating a fine, pulsating movement in the water. Its lightweight construction makes it ideal for swinging in various water conditions, and it has become a favorite among spey fishermen in the Pacific Northwest.

Pro Tip

Reverse Swing Technique: Cast the Foxee Dog downstream at a shallow angle and allow it to swing across the current. As it reaches the end of the swing, execute a series of upstream mends to create a reverse swing effect. This unconventional presentation can trigger strikes from steelhead holding in unconventional lies.
