Firefighters Fury image

Description

A brightly accented streamer pattern for bass/pike/panfish. Flat wing streamer style with reflective flash and rugged materials to entice large freshwater fish.

This pattern reflects the vibrant colors and elements associated with firefighting, paying homage to their vital role in protecting our wildlands. Oranges, Yellows, Greens, Reds, and Blacks all make great color variations for this pattern!

Pro Tip

Drift the streamer down current or twitch the fly and make it dance in slow water with quick short strips and rod tip jerks to trigger hard strikes from aggressive fish.

Recipe

Hook: Size 4-8 streamer hook Thread: Red or black 6/0 Body: Red or orange chenille or yarn Tail: Black marabou or synthetic fiber (to represent the contrast of firefighting gear) Wing: Yellow and black synthetic fibers or feathers (to mimic the bright and dark colors of gear) Hackle: Black or dark red saddle hackle (for a bit of movement and flash) Flash: Gold or silver flashabou (for added sparkle) Head: Black or red bead (to add weight and color)

Thread Base: Start by securing the thread on the hook shank and wrap a base layer from the eye to the bend of the hook.

Tail: Tie in a bunch of black marabou and synthetic fibers at the hook’s bend to form the tail. Measure to your desired length (about 1.5 times the hook shank length).

Body: Wrap red or orange chenille or yarn around the hook shank from the tail to just behind the eye to form the body. Secure with thread and trim any excess.

Wing: Cut a mix of yellow and black synthetic fibers or feathers to form a wing that extends slightly beyond the body. The yellow represents the bright safety gear, while the black adds contrast. Tie the wing in on top of the body and secure it with thread.

Hackle: Tie in a black or dark red saddle hackle at the front of the body and wrap it around to create a collar. This adds movement and a bit of flash. Secure and trim any excess.

Flash: Add a few strands of gold or silver flashabou on each side of the wing for additional sparkle and to simulate reflective elements in firefighting gear.

Head: Slide a black or red bead onto the hook (if using) and secure it behind the eye during the chenille wrap process. This adds weight and a striking color contrast. If not using a bead, you can create a head with thread.

Finishing Touches: Whip finish the thread behind the bead or at the eye of the hook. Trim any stray fibers and make sure the wing and tail are properly aligned.

Tips: Adjust the size of the fly and colors based on the specific conditions and target fish species.

For a more rugged look, you can use natural materials like bucktail or grizzly feathers instead of synthetic fibers.
