DaySaver Baetis

The Daysaver Baetis is a highly effective mayfly nymph pattern created by fly tier and guide Brian Hilbert. Designed for technical tailwaters and spring creeks, this pattern specifically targets trout feeding on small Baetis (Blue-Winged Olive) nymphs, especially during low, clear conditions when fish become ultra-selective. Hilbert developed the Daysaver out of necessity—when trout ignored flashier patterns and standard nymphs, this sparse, natural imitation often saved the day, earning its name. With its slim profile, muted coloration, and carefully proportioned silhouette, the Daysaver Baetis excels in matching the natural size and shape of Baetis nymphs during both hatches and non-hatch periods.

Pair with a Sighter Fly: In deeper or faster water, use the Daysaver as the trailing fly behind a larger attractor or tungsten beadhead. This helps get the Daysaver into the strike zone without adding unnecessary weight to the pattern itself.
