Booby Black Quill

The Booby Black Quill is a buoyant wet fly designed to imitate the pupal or emerger stage of the Black Quill (Leptophlebia spp.). Originating in the stillwater fly fishing scene, this pattern features foam "booby eyes" that provide exceptional flotation, allowing the fly to hover just beneath the surface or be suspended above the bottom when paired with a sinking line. The Booby Black Quill’s lifelike profile and enticing movement make it a deadly choice for trout feeding in slow water or during the transition from nymph to adult.
