Blonde Series Fly Patterns image

Description

The Blonde Series of saltwater flies was originally created by Homer Rhode, Jr. in the late 1940s as the Homer Rhode, Jr. Tarpon Bucktail, specifically for tarpon fishing. Homer, along with Joe Brooks, used this fly in the 1950s and 1960s in Florida to target various saltwater species. Joe became so impressed by its success that he later renamed and popularized the pattern, calling it the "Strawberry Blonde," "Platinum Blonde," and several other variations. Although the flies became widely known as the "Brooks Blondes," Joe was careful to clarify that while he played a significant role in promoting the pattern, he was not the original creator. The Blonde Series is renowned for its versatility and effectiveness in attracting a range of saltwater game fish, including bonefish, permit, and tarpon.

Pro Tip

Adapt for Clear and Murky Water: The Blonde flies work exceptionally well in both clear and murky water conditions. For clearer water, opt for the lighter variations such as the Platinum Blonde, which offer a more subtle presentation. For murkier waters, the bright, flashy colors of the Strawberry Blonde or other variants help increase visibility, making the fly stand out to fish in low-visibility situations.
