Blind Chicken image

Description

The Blind Chicken, created by Capt. Billy Trimble, is a highly effective fly designed for use throughout the Texas Gulf Coast. This pattern was specifically crafted to imitate small crabs and crustaceans, which are key prey for many game fish species. The Blind Chicken can be tied in a limitless array of colors, though the original design featured pink over chartreuse. The fly has accounted for numerous species, with redfish being a primary target. It is also a fantastic cross-over pattern for sight-casting to striped bass, adapting well to various conditions. By experimenting with different color combinations, the Blind Chicken can also serve as an impressionistic sand flea pattern. Pro Tip

Adapt to Local Baitfish Colors: The Blind Chicken can be tied in a variety of colors to match the local prey species. In areas where small crabs and crustaceans are abundant, try tying the fly in natural tones such as tan, brown, or olive. For situations where fish are feeding on sand fleas or small crustaceans, experiment with a sand-colored variant to match the hatch.
