Description

The Ball Peen Craw – Created by Jay Zimmerman. It Is one of the top Carp flies out there. It gets down quick and has a great lifelike movement. It’s an impressionistic crayfish pattern that works very well on bass and trout, especially in streams and rivers.

Pro Tip

Not too heavy, easy to cast. Great for picky fish of all types. One of my favorite Carp patterns.

Perfect for carp, small mouth up north. A drag and drop method in money

Recipe

Hook: Size 4-8, strong nymph or streamer hook, such as TMC 5262 or similar – A durable hook with a wide gap to accommodate the bulk of the materials. Thread: UTC 140 Denier, tan or olive – This strong thread serves as a solid base for the fly and blends well with the natural color scheme of the fly. Weight: Lead or tungsten bead – Placed at the front of the hook, this provides weight to help the fly sink quickly and get to the bottom where crawfish typically reside. Body: Olive or brown chenille – This forms the thick, segmented body of the crawfish, which gives the fly its crawfish-like profile. Claws: Brown or olive rubber legs – Tied at the front to imitate the pincers of a crawfish, these rubber legs move subtly with the current and add realism to the fly. Tail: Marabou or similar feather – Provides a soft, flowing tail that imitates the natural movement of a crawfish's rear appendages. Eyes: Small black or gold bead chain – Adds a touch of realism and helps the fly balance in the water.
