Description

Ally's Shrimp is a renowned salmon fly pattern that originated in Scotland, created by the talented Scottish fly tyer and salmon fisherman Ally Gowans in the early 1980s. The inspiration for the fly came from an encounter Gowans had while fishing for lobster off the Scottish west coast, where he observed large, transparent shrimp in the water. Recognizing the potential of these shrimp as a food source for salmon, Gowans designed the fly to mimic the shape and motion of the shrimp, utilizing vibrant colors and a balanced, realistic profile. Ally's Shrimp quickly became a favorite among salmon anglers, particularly for its ability to attract Atlantic salmon during their feeding or migration phases.

Pro Tip

The Ally’s Shrimp is best fished with a slow, steady retrieve, allowing the fly to mimic the natural drifting movement of a shrimp. Use short, sharp strips followed by a brief pause, replicating the erratic movements of a shrimp in distress
